I was watching one of the hunting shows on VS the orher night and saw a guy take a nice buck with a pistol! Anyone here hunt deer with a pistol? If so what kind of rounds do you use?

Last year I took my first buck with my dads Taurus .44 Mag. Now I have a Smith and Wesson 629 classic in .44. A Ruger Super Red Hawk in .44 and a Contender with a super 14 .44 barrel. I'm looking forward to putting 44 caliber holes in deer for many years to come. I can't wait until December 1st!

I've taken 4 does with a 357 mag, but it wasn't quite enough gun to get a good exit wound everytime(2 of 4).Moved up to a 44 mag last year, much better, but only two deer with it. I dont think a 38 spl is enough to ethically take a deer. Try to get up near 1000 ft/lbs energy. Very hot 357 ammo only has about 800 ft/lbs energy. My uncle has a new 460 smith, WOW. Looks like they were hit with a 30-06! One of my cousins has a .500 mag, but ammo costs so much he doesn't shoot it enough to hit anything, and its a hand full. Anything 41 mag and up is good for whitetails. And I know some of the guys on tv try 100-200 yd shots with handguns, but try to think bow ranges. Its not easy as it looks!
