Gutting to me is part of the whole experience. It doesnt bother me at all i actually kind of enjoy it. It's kinda nice to have somewhere warm to stick you're hands on a cold day.

I like it, it means I was successful. The smells and everything remind me of past success. I can see how others wouldn't like it though. With each deer, I get a little faster, and a little cleaner. By the end of the season, the gutting is all over with in 3 minutes or so and I'm only bloody up to my wrist.

This wasn't the case when I got my first elk though, I learned quick you can't get through the rib cage with just a knife like you can with a deer. I was up to my shoulders in guts trying to get that one done.

If you don't like gutting, there's ways to make it less nasty. Wear gloves (good idea anyway especially with hogs and other less clean beasts). Make sure your knife is hair shaving sharp to make it go through everything faster with less resistance. Don't go so fast that you cut the guts, lungs, bladder, or yourself. And carry water and a rag to clean yourself off afterwards. If the smell bothers you a lot, just carry some cologne with you to mask the smell when you get back to your truck, plus, you'll smell great when you get to the processor[8D].

We always let ours hang for at least a day in the cold weather before we begin to process them. I believe you want a good chill on them before you start hacking away....

How do you tag in you deer? if you don't have to report it somehow. Here you have to take the deer with head attached to them and they give you a permanent tag.

yea it dont bother me either, but if it bothers you that bad you can always take it to a processer. Some that we have here do the whple nine yards for you.

my uncle vomits when he sees blood. so whenever he shoots a deer he either calls me or my dad to come field dress it for him. but its usually me[:@]

'I love the smell of field dressing in the morning'. I honestly don't comprehend the issue.

Our nation is becoming 'wussified' and now our deer hunters, too! Unbelievable! God help us all!

I use the old trick to avoid the smell I learned while still "on the job". I keep a small bottle of Vicks Vapo-rub in my pack. One small dab under your nose will kill any odor. Cops have known this for years. As for the blood etc., just deal with it the best you can. It's all part of the hunt.

i ave mine processed but i gut em myself it really doesnt make me puke but idont exactly enjoy it but i also dont think it that bad

The blood and guts don't bother me. What's strange is that the sound kindasurprises mesometimes, those squishy sucking noises while you're gutting it out.
