Does rattling work in Ohio
Hi,
I'm from WV and got an ohio license this year. Rattling is kind of pointless here because the buck to doe ratio is probably 1 to 10 so they don't have to worry about gettin' the girls.
However, due to much better deer management in Ohio, they have a ratio of closer to 1:1 or so I hear. So is rattling effective in Ohio? I'm hunting in lawrence county.

yes. Where I am at it is very effective. Rattle for two minutes or a little more then wait for 30-40 minutes. then rattle again. Mainly during early season bow. I've had bucks and does respond to it to. They get very curious.

My dad and I have both had success rattling where we are at in Ohio. Although I disagree about rattling early, I've heard it does work sometimes. Bucks will also fight all year around. On a Drury outdoors video, they get these 2 bucks in a brawl on September 30th. I would say start to rattle a little here in the next week, then start going at it the last week of October through November. Good luck!

Of course Ohio isn't like Texas when it comes to deer hunting. Ohio's better! Anyway, it's just about the pre-rut here in Ohio and over the next week, we are supposed to get cold weather so it should be great for hunting. Who knows, maybe my dad or I will get a shot at the giant Typical we have on our property. Or we'll take one of the other big bucks we got.
