Does Scent-Lok Really Work???

Just wondering what your guys' take is on the whole "Scent-Lok" technology. It's pretty high priced, but I was considering investing in the BaseSlayers but wanted to see what you guys thought first...

Do a search for scent-lok. You will find every opinion on this board I am sure.

Maybe, a little, but test have shown that it isn't what it is advertised to be. Hunt the wind, it is cheaper and it works.

save your money. if you hunt from a climber, hunt high. if you hunt on the ground, pay attention to the wind and set up accordingly.

From what I can tell from the clothes I own, it works a little. As stated earlier, not like what they claim though. In reality, it's the best marketing gimick ever. A good scent killer and cover scent combo along with hunting the wind goes much further for your money.

The company is in hot water litigation. Some studies contest what they claim there products are capable of. Take the advise of others and don't waste your money. Buy and use scent neutrilizer sprays. Better yet, make it yourself like I do. A smart hunter uses the wind to there advantage for scent and noise controls.

I have some of the scent lok and scent blocker clothes and in my opinion if you take care to eliminate your scent by showering with no scent shampoo, using no scent detergent, using no scent spray etc and couple that with the scent lok clothes it can be very effective. If you hop out of bed and don't shower and just throw your clothes on and hop in the truck and smoke a few cigs on the way over and climb into your deer stand then no its not going to work. I didn't buy the clothes thinking for even a second that they would just make me magically disappear to the deers nose. I'm not an idiot. But when used in accordance with the above mentioned steps it is very effective. I have bought all my clothes after season when Dicks puts them on sale at about 1/3 price of normal so I don't have hundreds of dollars invested in it.

If you do wht BetterBirdDogs suggest, and don't wear a suit, you'll do just as good as if you added the suit.

You'll find the latest information about Scent Lok here: www.trmichels.com/ActivatedCarbonScience.htm

I think nearly all scent control is a gimmick, at least with the deer I'm hunting around.

When I was a kid, I sat with my grandfather on a log. We wore our farming overalls, greasy work boots, and a winter coat. He smoked A&M's, andhad a bright red CASE International hat. Never did I see a deer pay attention to the smell...and still to this day have never seen a deer smell me..and then blow out of sight. So when guys were hunting deer 50 years ago w/o any scent control products...and killed deer left and right......how in the world did the deer population gain the amount of intelligence it takes to identify dangerous odors just in recent years?

Again, I think it's 99% gimmick. PT Barnum's advice works on deer hunters too.

IMO a guy who washes his clothes in baking soda, hangs them outside, only wears them in the woods and takes scent free showers, is more scent free than a guy who wears his scentlok suit in the car and house and doesnt shower right before a hunt.

I cant say that the stuff works, but i think it is very comfortable to wear....I wish they made it without the gimmick and sold it for 1/3 or half the price

RE: Does Scent-Lok Really Work???

It is a scientific fact that they do help eliminate odor, especially carbon based products (but never completely, not even close. Don't believe me? Stand next to someone wearing the stuff and have them fart. You will smell it). The "catch" if you want to call it that, is that do the deer actually care if they smell something "new" to them? I've yet to see it...

Yeah it separates you from your money, but as advertised, NO!

I have some that I bought on sale and got a pretty good price. It is good clothing. It is too hot to wear when the weather is warm. I have been winded with it on and off with or without wearing it. Does it work. Maybe a little, hard to tell. I know one thing, when the weather gets cooler, I seldom get winded with or without it on, but if a deer gets directly down wind of you and the conditions are wrong, they will smell you every time with or without scent lok.

I will not hunt without scent lok. However I am not sure how well it works but it does give me peace of mind which is all I need while I am sitting in my stand. I hunt the wind so I guess in my mind it works

RE: Does Scent-Lok Really Work???

I'll have to agree that it DOES NOT work as advertised. I do have one jacket and pant but I bought it for bowhunting since the material it was made from is super quiet NOT for the scent locking abilities. I just wash my stuff in scent free detergent, line dry, and store with pine needles or earth scent.

RE: Does Scent-Lok Really Work???

No, it doesn't work "at-all".... Straight out of the package it will be as effective as cotton at preventing a whitetail from winding you!

RE: Does Scent-Lok Really Work???

I don't own one Scent Lok article of clothing and don't intend on buying any. I just practice good common sense scent control as others have mentioned already.

Scent Lok claims that you can reactivate the clothing by placing in a dryer. This reactivation is like cleansing the odor/bacteria from the charcoal embedded clothing so your good to go for next use.
The problem is charcoal does not reactivateuntil it hits 200degrees.Home dryers only hit around 140-150so the clothing continues toget clogged over repeated dryings making the clothing less effective over time. I believe this is only part of the dispute in process. The other half isScent Lok'sknown deception of this and pulling the wool over everyone's eyes. Been awhile since I followed the story so not sure where it ended up. Don't waste your money IMO.

It is one of those products that is virtually impossible to prove that it works or not. Kinda like having a lifetime guarantee on your pet rock. All 50 of my hunting years I have done quite well without it.

RE: Does Scent-Lok Really Work???

Just my 2 cents here, don't know if it works or if it doesn,t work. I needed some new camo and wanted to get a coverall. Decided to get a scent loc one as the price was good, I figured why not it couldn't hurt. Both times that I have been out so far this year I have seen deer come from downwind and they never knew I was there. I try to practice good basic scent control as at is. So did they not catch my scent just because of the scent loc coveralls, probably not, but did it help, maybe. It looks good and feels great and I needed some new stuff as it was....

RE: Does Scent-Lok Really Work???

I was a skeptic too until i went out and bought a scent lok suit the night beforearchery season. That night i activated the carbon and set it outside in the woods. The next morning i sprayed myself down with Hunters Specialty dirt smelling cover scent. Before i got into my stand the wind was blowing in my favor but i guess mother nature wanted to play tricks on me and the wind switched. Fearing that i would scare the deer i stayed put and just sat there. I waited for about thirty minutes and the deer started pouring down the trailincluding two decent bucks that presented me with no shots. They were all down wind of me. That day iended upshooting a pretty nice doe to fill the freezer and she was only 30 yards from me and she was definately down wind.
All this to sayis that i know that carbon suites dont eliminate 100% of the scent but i definately know that it helps alot... And if you usescent lokalong with other scent elimination products and trying touse the wind in your favor i am forced to believe that itincreases your chances at shooting deer drastically.Anyone saying that itdoesn't workobviously hasn't tryed it. If they do have it and theystill dont think that itdoesn't works maybe they should consider keeping still in the woods and stop moving around while they are in their stands.

RE: Does Scent-Lok Really Work???

What if I don't have it, never worry about the wind, and still have deer down wind from me? That sounds like a feat only Mr. Norris himself would be able to accomplish...
