both are great. I personally like the .30-06 I have shot both and the '06 is just easier to find ammo for. I find many hardwares and even grocery stores carry some ammo where I am from. And '06 is always on the shelf. very versatile.

I voted .270 its a greatround and no deer alive can walk away with a 130 gr. bullet in them. The ATR is a good no frills get the job done rifle, it shoots straight and will treat you well.

its like telling somebody you want half a dozen of something, not 6............one is good as the other

Both are great deer rounds, .06 way more versatile.

I own a .270 in a Remmington 700 and it's a great deer rifle but seriously, if all you're gonna do is deer hunt there's no difference. Now if you want more bullet choices for other big game, then the 30-06 is probably the way to go.

hmm.. i'm about 90 percent sure i'll never go elk hunting or anything like that.. but you never know..

then again bullet prices are pretty much the same ... and my dads best friend has a ruger 270 thats killed quite a few deer.. and then we could trade bullets and whatnot.. i'll probally stick with .270 but i have better choices on 30-06

the ruger harvested this one for him tonight

Not good shot placement there, but it's hard to argue with a buck like that down. I've been hunting in SC for 4 years now and the .270 is plenty for what you'll see here. Where are you hunting?

Its not even comparing apples to oranges... this is comparing macintosh to golden delishes. Two of my favorite cartridges. It all depends on the use of them. 06 will give you those bigger bullets that are alittle better for the bigger game as far as take down power. 270 will give you a farther and flatter trajectory. Personally, I own three center fire rifles: Puma 357 mag, I use for deer in indiana, Rem. 700 chambered in 243 win which actually belongs to my father and I use it for deer in kentucky and a 270 ruger that I just bought this last fall from a local shop just to have a "do it all rifle" that I can take to out west for mulies next fall. And I gotta say the only thing I don't like about that rifle is that is not an 06
