Default 30-06?

i have a ruger m77 30-06 springfeild bolt action wood stock rifle. i went out and shot it this weekend to make sure it was sighted in and it was all over the place from about 60 yards. i also took my trusty .243 and it was extremely accurate. but the 30-06 was wayyyyyyyyy off. anyone else with this problem?

Sounds like a very bad scope/mount.

Are you using the same ammo you used last year?

Take the scope off and remount it using locktight on all the screws.

Check the action screws and make sure they are tightened and in the correct order. Put the action in the stock and put in the first screw by the magazine, don't tighten it down yet just get it in there. Then do the same for the one on the trigger guard and finally the one in the middle. Don't tighted one down all the way and move to the next one, do each a little at the time until they are all at the correct tightness. The top one (angled one) should be really tight, the middle snug enough to not fall out and the rear on really snug but not cranked all the way down. I used to tighten mine ruger all the way down and the action would bind and send groups all over the place.

Sounds like a Scope Ring or Rings have Tweaked the Scope.......Quickest Way to determine that is with a Brownell Scope Ring Aligner ...This will show you which Rings need to be Shimmed....

As others have stated it definitely sounds like a scope mount /scope issue. I have never seen a ruger that wouldn't print halfway decent groups!

I purchased the same rifle this year as well and had no problem sighting mine in. As stated must be something with the scope mounting. Good luck.
