RE: Locking your ladder treestand?

I agree with vandeer. IF they want it, they will take it regardless of what lock is used - or destroy it. Theives have an odd mentality (if I can't have it, no one can).

It'd take a good bit of balls to take down and haul out any stand...let alone aladder stand. I lock mine too, but they all said it right. If someone wants it bad enough, they'll get it....even if it means downingthe tree.

Could only imagine walking up on the person pulling that number while you were walking in. Ugly would be putting it lightly.

I don't lock stands anymore.

But when I did, I would just use whatever chain/lock was available. You could have a stand locked with Aircraft Carrier anchor line, if somebody wants it bad enough, they're going to get it. The lock just keeps the honest( or semi-honest:D) people honest.

I use a small cable and a padlock or combination lock. If "they" did take it I could probably find "them".

they would end up in the bottom of a silo with 10 foot of "permanent" sileage over em. I'm just going to use the steel braided cable I got from lowes and lock it up there then take the bottom portion of the stand after the season.

I have had thieves cut through every lock I have tried. If a thief wants your stand badly enough, he is going to get it.

ladder treestand lock the only one that i found works

I have tried many ladder locking systems, only one i found truly works. it is finally a way to keep others out. it seems new this fall. I have 5 on all my ladder stands. It took about 15 minutes for first one, then only 5 minutes for the rest. It is by vitalzone hunting products. http://www.vitalzonehunting.com/ladd...-lock-brackets.

My experience, as a law enforcement officer, a lock is just to keep an honest man honest.

Just remember that no matter how tough of a chain and lock you put on it, the stand is held together by nuts and bolts so it could just be taken apart by a thief who wants it. That's why I just use a climber.

i have tried it all. trust me when i say this. it does not matter what you use because if someone wants it they will find a way to get it. i have stopped locking anything. not even my cameras because it is just a waste of time and money. locks are only for honest people. so if an honest person finds my stuff they aint gonna take it wether it is locked or not and if someone finds it and wants it they are going to take it wether it is locked or not. best you can hope for is they get discouraged or you catch them. best of luck
