is the rut on??

so i was out hunting today and checked my trail camera on the farm on my way back in and got these 2 photos. notice that they are right around a 10 minute time frame. that is between the buck and the doe. does this mean that they are possibly entering rut or just a freak accident??

notice the time

what do you think??

anything is possible... i wouldn't call it a freak accident that two dear of the opposite sex are in the same area though.

what state are you in? I would have to say for the first week in October there is nothing happing with the rut yet. that is more likely to be a travle corridor where you will see deer following the same path. Here in NY the rut won't start till late October early November. Not a bad buck though.

I agree with the others. Just a travel area

yes i have recorded severly deer passing on the same trail farther up. about 200yrd's or so. i have several feeding area's there along this trail. thinking it is a path from the thick brushy wood's to a large open alfalfa field.

The deer should be atleast starting to think about the rut, I live/hunt in eastern Iowa, and have been watching a few deer as they have been sniffin butts already.

mid-missouri

Shouldn't be much difference than Illinois. I'd say it's too early

According to the scientific definition of "rut", any activity associated with therut (shedding velvet, rubbing, scraping, chasing, breeding) is "in the rut". In many northern areas shedding velvet occurs as early as thefirst week of September, earlier thefarther south you go, and earlier in Canada.

IN this case it might be just coincidence. You can find out when the breeding season occurs by Googling "Peak Whitetail Rut Dates".
