I choose scope as it gives me a better opportunity to bare down on the shot. I hunt with a T/C Contender .44 Mag with handloads that are a bear. It also helps in the thick woods I hunt too.

I use open sights, the only two handguns I use for hunting is a Ruger Vaquero in 45LC and a Traditions Trapper .50 black powder handgun. Both do great with open sights, neither one is all that great for long range. I'm not sure if it would even be possible to put a scope on either of these guns.

i also use a scope on my short rifle, encore pistol with 15" barrel in 7mm-08, with a fixed 4X leupold, if i change it will be to a 2X or varible, sight acquisition is a little different (for me anyway[&:]) with the pistol, i know other scoped pistol shooters can relate but it just a little goofy[&:][:-][:@]

Scoped...
I have a 3-12 x 32 Burris Ballistic Plex EER on my Ruger Super Redhawk in .480 Ruger.
It gives me a much better sight picture, the ability to look the game over more closely, and the ability to " PICK " my spot to aim at, instead of aiming at a general area.
I would never go back to open sights , after having used a Handgun with a scope. I like it that much better.
