RE: what time do you get to your stand
i try to get in the stand about 45 min before light to let everything calm down and if its hot so i can cool off before the deer start moving back to teir bedding area.

RE: what time do you get to your stand
Since this is a broad time frame, i would say 30-40 mins before light to get settled in and let things calm down. If I havent hunted all day (which I usually do) when I go out for the afternoon hunt, I like to be in my stand by 3pm and let things get back to normal.

RE: what time do you get to your stand
No later than 1/2 hour before shooting light.
|
RE: what time do you get to your stand

RE: what time do you get to your stand
I mainly hunt a big buck that I've I.D'. to a certain area In the late afternoon. When I accomplish that, and with stand location being based 99.9% on wind detection followed by all the sign issues-scrapes, trails, and PARTICULARLY rubs,- I'll get to that stand before daylight, and wait til he cones out that early evening. In many instances, a mature buck-3 1/2 + - will set up shop near daylight to the area he will be at that late afternoon { unless pressure dictates otherwise }, using scout does, wind, noise, sight senses throughout the day, IMHEXP. He might be up to a 1/4 t0 1/2 mile from that spot the entire day. I'd say probably close to 80% of the time, I've quessed wrong on where that exact spot will be { he comes out at a different location.} I'll take a 20% score on a monster { I generally consider that 130-135 and higher. If I lived/hunted in a state where gun season lasts just a few days, it would be closer to 150+ } any season. It equals a lot of seasons not having pulled the trigger or flinging an arrow, but to me, that's not what it's about anywho.
I enjoy stretching my season as long as possible. |

RE: what time do you get to your stand
In SC you can shoot 1 hour before official sunrise. You can't shoot 1 hour after official sunset. I like to be in the stand 1 1/2 hour before official sunrise. What is official sunrise? Ask the US Naval Observatory. They are the official timekeeper for the US Government.
http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/ Here is a sunrise/sunset calculator from their website. http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.php You enter the date you are interested in, the state and town. Alternately you could enter the Lat. and Long. for the exact moment of sunrise at your stand. |
RE: what time do you get to your stand
I like to leave my jimmy about 45 min. before like it doesn't take me long to get to my stand, but i like to walk then stop to listen to the sound of the woods to make sure i don't run into any deer that might be walking threw at that time.

About an hour before dawn, not sunrise, for morning hunts. For afternoon hunts, 2 - 3 hours before dark, if I don't sit all day.

RE: what time do you get to your stand
I get in at least an hour before sunrise. I have to get in early as I get in and set prior to the members of the 100 yard club starts tromping into the woods making it look like a Kmart sale day. This has been successful for me as the deer are looking brehind at all the orange farters. I try and go 1/2 tro 1 mile back in.

RE: what time do you get to your stand
Our club rule is, "No personal stands. First come first served." If you get to the stand I put up before me then I have to go somewhere else. There haven't been any real problems. I haven't had anyone walk up to a stand I was in. We let each other know where we plan to go, but no one gets to the club before me.
|
RE: what time do you get to your stand
I like getting there about 45 minutes berore first light.
|
RE: what time do you get to your stand
30 min before light works for me. I know guys that will not go in the woodsuntil shooting light arrives. There take is you cannot shoot at what you cannot see. I disagree and like to be in position for guys like this to push deer my way. There on the move and I am not during prime time so I stand to take advantage.
|
RE: what time do you get to your stand
I do the same as rozman! These bumbling hunters have pushed some nice Deer to me.
|
RE: what time do you get to your stand
And what's wrong with walking? I get in my stand and 45 minutes later I hear ATVs all over the place. I know one guy that parks under his stand! Walk back and get the ATV after you knock one down.
|
RE: what time do you get to your stand
An exact time is tough because it depends on where you are in the country and what time of the year. For me, 45 minuntes. Gives me time to have a little coffee, settle in and listen to whats happening around me.
|
RE: what time do you get to your stand
I try to get out as early as possiable , it's a rather long walk to get to either one of my stands.
|
RE: what time do you get to your stand
I also like to get to my stand 45 min before shooting light. It gives me plenty of time to get set up and cooled down from the walk in, and gives the woods time to settle down from me walking in. The biggest deer I have ever killed, a 7 pt with 221/2" inside spread, came by my stand @ 6:30 a.m. So I want to be good and ready when its light enough to see.

RE: what time do you get to your stand
