New to site, seeking guidance.
Hello everyone.
I'm a 28 y/o that decided I want to try hunting deer and rabbits for the first time. I've spent 7 years as a grunt in the Army, but never had the chance to hunt anything with four legs.
What would be a solid choice of rifles, one to hunt deer and the other for rabbits. I will be hunting in southern New Jersey. I plan on purchasing a scope for both rifles. I am willing to pay up to $700 for each rifle plus the price of the optics.
Your recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Mr. Ward

MR. Ward, first let me say thank you for your service to this great country!!!!
A deer rifle, I would say at least a .243. I won't recommend a particular rifle as I am a big ruger fan but there are many good ones out there.
A rabbit rifle, I would say a shotgun say 20ga. but they are a lot of fun with a .22 as well
Good luck to you and have fun with it!!!!

I am a big fan of the .243 or 30-06 for deer. As far as brands go I'm a big fan of Savage rifles, but really any rifle manufacturer that has been at it for a while will do quite well.
For the rabbits I don't think you can beat the Ruger 10/22 for versatility/accessories.

.243 is a great deer rifle, but if you go with a .270 your fine for deer and bigger north american game. For rabbits 17HMR all the way.
