True, but it is still close to being to close to straight behind the deer......shots like that tell you what can happen occasionally... evidently the bullet hit some bone and ricoched...

This happened to me with my first deer when I was 12. I was with my dad and we saw two does. He told me to shoot the largest of the two. I aimed and shot, and the smallest doe dropped in its tracks and the one I was aiming at ran off. I didn't know what had happened and started to frantically tell my dad I was aiming at the largest doe, and he said you dumb@ss you shot them both. The doe I was aiming at went about 30 yards and fell dead from a perfect heart shot. My dad got to burn his tag that year on a small doe. I was so focused on the target animal I didn't see the smaller doe slip behind at the last moment. No buck for my first deer, but I did take 2 with one shot.
