Does anyone shoot a 12 ga slug gun with one of the Rifleman or VX-series scopes on thier slug gun?
Just curious to how it shoots and holds up.
I have Leupold Scopes on everyother weapon- from 3x9 rifleman to 6.5-20 VX-III
just want at minimum 3x9 for the slug gun if possible-
can someone give me some background here?
I know Leupolds are top quality - but does the 3x9 work on a slug gun?
thanks

I have Leupold VX-II all in 3-9x40 on my slug guns & muzzleloader:
H&R Ultra Deluxe in 20ga.
Remington 11-87 SPS 12ga.
T/C Omega .50
Had them on for years without any problems, and these are my favorite scopes

I have the leupold shotgun 2-7 on mine.
That's what it's designed for, 12ga slugs....
Have a 1.5-4.5 nikon on my other 12ga, holds up fine, wanted a little more power than the 1.5-4.5 though on this setup especially with the newer faster slugs out there....
I think the 2-7 is ideal, I'd also get a nikon in the future, my leupold power adjustment is crazy tough to adjust.
I'd probably suggest getting a nikon slug scope in 2-7 or 3-9 if you're set on that power range.
Either way I'd get a shotgun/slug scope, parrallax is typically set to 75yds, instead of 150 or 200yds like on most rifle scopes....and on a slug gun 75yds is perfect. Since about the longest shot anyone would take with a slug would be around 200yds.
So first choice, Nikon shotgun 2-7x
2nd choice, leupold shotgun 2-7x

In my opinion there are better scopes for the money than the lower end Leupold's. Not that they are junk, I'm just not that impressed with them for the money. The more expensive ones are good, but I wouldn't buy a rifleman simply because it said Leupold on it.
My opinion anyway. Ask this question in the Optics or Gun forum and see what they think.

Save yourself alot of money and get a Nikon Prostaff 2-7x 32mm shotgun scope for $116.00. Has a 75 yard parallax, generouseye relief, and really good glass for the money. This isall you need for slug gun hunting. Two years ago I shotthis 200 pound doe right through the heart at 110 yards with a Rem 870, and this scope attached.

I have a Leupold 2-9x40 VXII, no problems ever as with all my Leupolds. Has great eye relief which is needed for that 12GA slug recoil if you like you eye or nose.

A VXII is NOT the same scope as a Rifleman is the point I am making. That is the point were the Leupold scopes get good and are worth the price they ask. Well actually I still think you can get better scopes for the money, but not much better in all honesty.
