I eat quality foods, like fruit, and my go to food source are Cliff Bars! They are a must!

My favorite thing to bring is a Hershey milk chocolate candy bar when its real cold outside. Other than that, simple chocolate chip granola bars usually hold me over pretty well.

I'm a bit if a control freak when it comes to scents. I try to bring things that have little odor. Bologna sandwich with lettuce and Mayo (no tomoato so it doesn't get soggy and no mustard cuase the smell is too strong). Bags of pretzels (remove from original bag and put in sandwich bags as they don't make as much noise when opening and putting into your pack). I'll take a banana or a piece of fruit with little smell. I do take a few energy drinks but that's because I usually go 8 to 12 hours a day without coming out of the tree. Also, Animal Crackers are good to stave of the hunger pains. I hear some folks will eat apples if there are apples trees in the area. I also hear chocolate covered coffee beans can give you a nice kick when that mid afternoon lull kicks in.

RE: what to eat while hunting
As you can tell most of the guys take foods like apples, jerky, water, granola, any kind of high fiber, high energy(carbs) foods. High fiber will make you feel fuller longer so you don't have to pack a bunch of food with you.

RE: what to eat while hunting
First off let me say this, it takesquite a while for the average person to digest food.
So if your gonna fast at all, don't eat the night before you hunt.Eat your dinner, at a reasonable time avoid eating anything past 8pm the night before you hunt. if you decide to do a midnite snack more than likely, you just screwed yourself. Chances are likely, if you eat at a reasonable time in the morn, or in the mid morn , it ain't coming out till night time. So to avoid fasting, just eat at smart times. With me I carry, jerky,a protien bars, spitz, gatorade. In my vehicle a cooler full of gatorade, lots & lots of waterandbeer.Crap load of chocolate bars, spitz, and protien bars, fruit (apples oranges bananas) and a couple of sandwhiches. |

RE: what to eat while hunting
Last year during Deer Season I stayed in my stand all day,I packed 2 bottles of water,1 (one) 20 oz. bottle of Pepsi, some granola bars and 2 apples. If your going to plan on staying all day you need to have something that will keep up your energy to be alert and your stomach won't be growling all day long! ;)
I like the idea of apple cider or even some natural cranberry/grape drink that would be better for you to have and not make you hyperlike a soda would? When I took my Daughter on the Youth Hunt I packed a whole lunch in my Camo cooler! [&:] |
RE: what to eat while hunting
Bottled Water is a must for me. I also like to bring some granola bars, and a trail mix with me.
If I am staying on stand all day like in the colder gun season, I will bring a thermos of hot beef bouillon and a few ham & cheese sandwiches, plus some oatmeal raisin or choc. chip cookies. I try to stay away from really loud foods like chips, or smelly foods like gum, jerky, garlic laden food, etc. I find that if I eat too much on stand, I tend to get sleepy, but the colder the weather, the more I need to eat to keep the old body furnace going. |
