Slug Chokes?
My daughter is going on her first deer hunt with me this year. She probably won't need to shoot more than 40 yds. so I was just going to use rifled slugs out of a BPS 20 ga. smooth bore. What is the correct choke tube? Any other info may be helpful! Thanks

RE: Slug Chokes?
I would look for any warnings on the box or the manufacturers website, but an improved cylinder should work fine.Shoot a few of a couple of brands and see which one targets the best.

RE: Slug Chokes?
Normally you want they most open choke you can get. Usually I go with an Improved Cylinder or a Modified. Some of my guns with certain loads actually shoot a bit better with the modified choke even though it's a bit tighter. For as cheap as rifled slugs are it's worth a try to see how it performs with both.
DO NOT shoot it without a choke installed though!!!!! The ends of the barrels are pretty thin without a choke installed and you run the risk of messing up your choke threads. Paul |
RE: Slug Chokes?
Improved cylinder or modified should work out well for you. Just check to see which works better, you should be able to get 3" groups at 100 yards easily.

RE: Slug Chokes?
I've used Brennecke slugs out of my 12 ga. BPS with an IC choke. I'm able to do about a 4" group at 100 yd. with just the pumpkin bead.

Thanks for all your help!
I'll try an IC. for my 12ga. and I just bought a H&R 20ga. for for my daughter to use. When mywife and I hunt together she'll use it and I'll still have the 12 till I can pick up another one. Thanks again! UPSTREAM IN A DOWNSTREAM WORLD |

Well, as everybody else say, either IC or MOD.
