Start looking for funnels from one stand of timber to another. I can tell you they will find them before you find them. Good luck this coming season.

Not saying that I am a pro or anything, but I do live in the South East which is the "bread basket" for the timber and paper industry. Most of the land here is owned by paper and timber companies and cleared quite often. Unless they come in and totally clear hundrends of acres you will be fine. In most places as soon as the trees are cut (which allows sun light to reach the ground) new vegitation starts to grow. It doesn't take much cover to hide a deer. If you live in an area with poorer quality soil or if they do cut the area late in the season then more than likely yes, you will have to wait until the following year to get decent undergrowth.

I see posts just like this one all the time on the local state talk forums posted by people who move down here and aren't "used" to this.

Another thing is that deer are courious by nature. One of the best times to hunt an area that is being logged is as soon as the loggers call it a day. Just take a stand or even climb up on some of the logging equipment. As soon as it gets quite the deer will come in to see whats going on in their living room.

As for the "at night" comments. Most deer aren't nocturnal by nature. We make them that way. Its the pressure that makes them go nocturnal.
