Was wondering what is the most important feature for taking big game with a firearm?

Is it the velocity of the bullet when it hits the animal? Is it the bullet's weight? Is sectional density more important, ie for penetration?

Agreed...I've killed many with both a .440 and .530 round ball out of a flintlock...
Slow velocity, terrible sectional density, plain old lead with no jacket and not enough energy to impress anyone...But put through the lungs on a whitetail, it drops them just as fast as anything you can use...

Shot placement+ enough energy and massto penetrate the vitals = meat in the freezer.

I say shot placement is by far the most important.

I say it's a combination of things, not just one factor.

Its shot placement but size and weight do matter.

The right type of bullet in the right place...

Even a silver bullet from the lone ranger couldn't do the job if it's not placed in the right spot. This one is a no brainer.
