RE: Scope question
The Vx 111 or older Varixiii are great scopes, although you will pay more. Their clarity is awesome and there is a built in range estimator on them. I usually put the 2.5X8 on my guns. I always leave them on the lowest power. If Something comes up quick, I can find it in the scope due to the fact that the lower power has a wider field of view. If something is further away, I have the time necessary to crank up the power. You only have to jump a nice buck once when you have that scope cranked up before you learn that lesson!

RE: Scope question
I am rather late in the "advice" line, but here is another $.02. I have hunted white tail deer since I was a teenager in the early 1960's. Do not make the same mistake that I did and "buy up" to a good scope. Trust me, I spent enough $$$ and over 20 years of frustration getting here. I have several scopes right now ... from a $50 BSA "Cat Eye" to $300 Burris Fullfield to $500 Leupold Vari-X III's to $2000 +/- top of the line Swarovski and Carl Zeiss scopes ... and too many in between to list here. I say this only to let you know I do have some experience with a broad spectrum of scopes. Be that as it may, regardless of what you get, do yourself a favor and buy the best quality that you can afford. You'll be glad you did.
You want a suggestion - Zeiss Conquest. |
RE: Scope question
I'll second Mojo and most of the others here too! Get the best you can get!
I used to think that it was foolish to spend the extra money for a better scope. But I had 2 cheapies fail me, one of them on a on a hunt! My suggestions would be Burris, Nikon Monarch, Bushnell 3200 or 4200 or at least a VX-II Luepy. A Zeiss Conquest would be about as high as I'd go! I believe you really get what you pay for in scopes but, I also believe that you reach a point of "diminishing returns" once you get into the Luepy VX-III price range! Good luck! |
