RE: This Years Deer!
Heres another pic of that big buck i got..
Feels soo good to get that ******** monkey off your back.. i was ready to hang it up if i didnt see any deer this year. My story is EVERY year i would go on state land.. hicke 2 miles plus to an area, and hunt on ground, because you cant build a stand or anything there, anyways i only always saw Doe, and never had doe permit. This year i went with a new friend to his land, much more northern NY, and i bagged my first and second. Venison stew.. YUMMMMM ![]() |
RE: This Years Deer!
never weighed him in. or aged him. but.. these are lessons i learned. all i know is that we needed to go back to the camp to get the quads to bring him back. felt like he was close to 200lbs dressed, call me crazy but i aint jokin. im a big dood, look at the size of the rifle to the deer. a freggin MULE

RE: This Years Deer!
I posted this on the crossbow site a couple days ago.
Last day for deer archery here in Ohio last Sun. Feb. 3 Harvesteda decent buck that night 5:25. Been hunting pretty hard every chance I got all fall & winter... it finally all came together. He came out with a dozen does and he was chasing them around like they were in heat. Kicking at them with his front feet, harrasing them, etc. It was awesome. I watched from about 80 yards, then all at once, he kept harrasing this doe and she had enough. She took off running away from the pack and he followed. She ran right past me (~20 yards) and he followed at the slow trot. I grunted at 20 yards and put a bolt right thru him... a little far back. Got one lung on my side and the liver on the exit side. (Thunderheads 100g) When he was running away from me, it looked like someone with their thumb over a garden hose... he ran about 50 yards, slowed down and fell over. I found the bolt about 20' past him laying on top of the snow (winter wheat field) It's been a long, hard hunt for me this year! ![]() |

RE: This Years Deer!
ckrimits,
There aren't any deer in Ohio. Especialy big deer. Ignore my picture. Its an illusion....:D Actually, I'd say I was more lucky than anything. Right place right time. Deer weight near 250 field dressed. And score 153" BTW aren't you in NY. Look a page back at the euro mounts. That one is a monster. Canuck33is in NY. So they are around. :) |
RE: This Years Deer!
I normally don't reply to bragging type posts, but felt the need this year. I took this deer in Indiana while hunting with my dad. I joined the military right out of high school and this was the first deer I took while hunting with my dad since my first deer some 20 years ago. It felt really good to be back in the field with him again, I did not realize how much I missed hunting with him and brother until I got to do it this year. Anyways, here is the picture, not a giant, but a good 8 for northern Indiana.

RE: This Years Deer!
kickin_buck,
Congrats on a fine looking buck. I too joined up years ago (16). I have been out for a while now and get to go hunting near home. Unfortunatly in the 10 years I was gone both my father and grandfather (in my pics) stopped deer hunting for whatever reasons. They still support me going as you can see. I just would love to get to head to the woods with them again. Or at least a deer camp somewhere. Anyway I was glad they came after I shot my buck. It made it some much better having them there. I seemed that it would have been pretty disapointing if they hadn't showed up. Sure I killed a great buck but it is so much better when shared with family and friends. BTW thank you for your service. |
RE: This Years Deer!
Last day Buck here in our PA firearms season.
