Scroll to the top of the page and click on the word 'features' in the orange tool bar and then click on deer hunting it has alot of info that is helpful to a begginer.

ORIGINAL: gmil6184 Congrats on getting started and all of the above is good advice. You might want to consider trying your hand at some small game hunting (along with deer hunting of course). The learning curve is usually pretty steep with deer hunting and you might find yourself getting a little frusterated, especially when you are just learning. Small game like squirrels and rabbit are a little bit easier (for the lack of a better word) and will still teach you many of the skills you will need for deer hunting (marksmanship, woodsmanship, holding still, being quiet, being patient, etc.). Not to mention it is fun hunting and good table fare. Just sometime to think about, good luck! Hey gmil that's suprising, how are the small animals easier? I'd have thought they'd be harder to shoot! |

Hey man welcome to the site, ive been hunting since i was old enough to hold a gun. it started out with birds and lizards when i was 5 years old, i had the best BB gun ever, a Daisy Red Rider. sorry, anyways my point is start out small and work your way up, but also try deer hunting in the process, or find some buddies on the weekend and go squirrel hunting (its lots of fun). Oh, but first you do need to take a hunters safty course. if you cant find one go to Wal-Mart's hunting section and ask for a copy of Alabama's 07', 08' Hunting and Fishing Digest, My bad!! Alabamas wouldnt work try Virginia's.

Hey go82 the smaller animals are easier cuz you can use a shotgun, if your not that accurate with a rifle.

Ha I didnt realize you'd use the different gun for different animals, makes sense though. I'm all for shooting the squirrels in my back yard, maybe they'll stay out of my attic this year! I wish...

I use different guns for all kinds of animals, i prefer using my Mossberg 500 for the majority of the critters.
