im making a permanent tree stand just for creature comforts like roof, sides, propane heater. i can make it bigger etc.........

I use a couple different wooden stands during bow season. I also have my climber just to have more versatility. If you make a permanent stand, make sure you have a couple so you can rotate if you hunt often.

i will state that after building the treestands myself, i cannot make them cheaper than i can buy them, i only make them to customize them. here are some ideas that i use, i weld on a couple of hooks on the sides to quickly hang things on. i make the platform as wide as i want, (wrap around). (4) 2"diameter 3" long tubes 45% out placed around the base to quickly cut cedar trees and place them in to camo up a little better.

+1^. Gander mtn had cheap ladder stands for $50 bucks last fall, I cant even come close to building one for that. I have a couple of tree houses that I builton 16 foot 4x4's, a ladder, few studs, plyboard, seats, windows, shingles. I've got like $500 inthe thing by the time I'm done. They are better stands than a $50 ladder stand, but NOT 10 TIMES BETTER!

150 ? you can get a nice one on sale at Dicks sporting goodsfor 60 and sportsman guide for 60...

15 footer...you cannot build one for that cheap

homemade treestands are way more difficult and end up costing quite a bit more then what you can get on cabela's. i do go with a few homemade ones though,since they are best suited for those days that no one wants to leave the lodge.
16 ft treated 4 by 4's,and 2 mature stong trees to attach 2,have worked best for me,i make a ladder out of these 4 by 4's,and use treated 2 by 4's for the ladder steps,and where it connects to the trees,i use treated2 by 6's,you then have a pretty strong floor base,and then brace the ladder to the trees with 2 by 4's in a couple of spots going up the tree. a cordless drill and saw and required,and a variety of stainless steel screws.
once you have your floor base and ladder all braced up,you then can do whatever you want in enclosing the stand. these types of stands are best overlooking large viewing areas with a good background for the stand.

here is a cool tip. i go around to the job sites, especially the big ones, they throw away so much wood, i have massive piles of 4x4's,2x4's of lengths from 2'-24', plywood some are full sheets. they say it costs more to move them around, so especially when the job is comming to an end the site foreman will throw away thousands of dollars in wood if you don't come load it up. the last job site we loaded up 4x4's, we filled up the back of the truck several times. now we have many portable duck blinds, deer blinds/stands.
