I am planing on buying some land and one of the things i wont to do is build a ground blind.

RE: building a ground blinds what should i use
Use the land, I am planning on cutting some locust or ceder trees for posts. then fill in the space with other parts of the woods I find. I like the Idea of using ceder and refreshing it often to help as cent cover.

bigtim,
If you are going elevated, i'm not sure that 5 feet up will do much for you unless there is a specific topographical reason you need to be a few feet up in a particular location. 4x4 or 4x6 ? I guess that depends on how big you are going to make the blind and how far you will be spacing the posts. |
RE: building a ground blinds what should i use
i am unsure of spacing it will be around 8by 8 ft maybe 8by12 not sure yet I wont to people to be able to use it comfortably and fit a small heater if need be
Of corse there is the 25inch Tv satalite dish fridge for beerso on No justjoken ORIGINAL: DannyD bigtim, If you are going elevated, i'm not sure that 5 feet up will do much for you unless there is a specific topographical reason you need to be a few feet up in a particular location. 4x4 or 4x6 ? 8 X 8 should be plenty for 2 people gun or bow. At that size i would go with 4 foot spacing for the 4x4.
As Drenal has suggeted using plexiglass instead of glass would be better. Do you plan on using this for gun only, or gun and bow? |

i would use the land too. find some good cedar trees and build ya a blind out of that. Thats all that we do when we build ground blinds

8 by 8 or 8 ft by 12ft is closer to a small cabin, there's little reason to have it more then 5-6 ft by 4ft by say 5 or 6 ft high, and that's for an actual ground blind, sounds like your thinking more towards a tree house, elevating something 5-10 ft that would be 8 by 8 to 8 by 12 ,would be very difficult.
if you keep it on the ground, all you'll need is treated 2 by 4's,frame then cover with plywood. for an elevated covered instand,i haven't tried using posts,i have 1 spot with 4 big trees that were perfect for building basically a 6 ft by 4 ft treehouse, about 12 ft high floor basewas as high as thetrees would allow.used 2 by 6's for the floor and 2 by 4's treated lumber for the walls. |

i am a big guy and wont to make sure it is big enough for to people
If that is 6x4 so be it i think i will take a sheets of osb lay it down. Have two people gear up up and see how much we need or do not need i had a spot in ky that had two trees both three foot around or more that would have been a great spot but i moved ORIGINAL: a1canadianoutfitters 8 by 8 or 8 ft by 12ft is closer to a small cabin, there's little reason to have it more then 5-6 ft by 4ft by say 5 or 6 ft high, and that's for an actual ground blind, sounds like your thinking more towards a tree house, elevating something 5-10 ft that would be 8 by 8 to 8 by 12 ,would be very difficult. if you keep it on the ground, all you'll need is treated 2 by 4's,frame then cover with plywood. for an elevated covered instand,i haven't tried using posts,i have 1 spot with 4 big trees that were perfect for building basically a 6 ft by 4 ft treehouse, about 12 ft high floor basewas as high as thetrees would allow.used 2 by 6's for the floor and 2 by 4's treated lumber for the walls. |
