NS Lands and Forests want both the lower jaw and the @ of points and the antller circumforence at 1" above the base. They uses these to study the herd.

There is no possible way to age deer by the antlers. My dad killed a 20 point this year that scored 166"and had 6 inch baseswith his bowand the deer was only 3 1/2 years old.

My uncle a great hunter told me antler points was due to genetics, if a deer was born to be a 12 pointer he would go through the maturing process, spike horn and as he aged would live to be a 12 pointer. Food supply will add to his mass, age to his finished cirum. of his rack. We hunt in a farming area, apples, carrots, corn and many other crops. We have a doe only without a doe draw tag so we see less of him than her!

That is hard to beleive, a 166inch deer with 6inch bases at 3 1/2. I bet that deer was atleast 4 1/2 or 5 1/2. WCL
