"FASTEST GROWING TISSUE KNOWN TO MAN"
#1
I was once told that deer antlers are the fastest growing tissue known to man. I really believe this would probobly be true. I mean, the rack drops in February or March and are completely regrown (and usually larger if nutritional needs are met and/or supplemented)in a matter of 5-7 months, right? That does seem like an awful lot of growth doesn't it? Almost magical.
The Chinese and other eastern asians have been injesting deer antler for thousands of years with claims of helping out with the body's immune systems, increasing health & vitality (maybe a new sponsor for Mark Martin, eh? I mean Viagra is a "hard" sponsor isn't it?)
I got to thinking about it when I was preparing my annual shed hunting map with this years preferred spots.
What are some other feelings/opinions out there?
Does anyone have any written study material or reference material I could read to get to the "bone" of the matter?
Much appreciated.

Don't know a reference, but I think the deer antler that they are consuming is antler in the velvet. That would have all the nutrients. A hardenend antler is just bone.
Wish I could be the one who discovers how deer do this in such a short time. It would be a medical breakthrough that would probably help us how to heal bones faster (like on Star Trek? LOL).
Good hunting

It isn't islotated to deer antlers, it also includes elk, caribou, moose, mule deer, etc...
The Chinese grind the antlers into a powder. Antlers are composed of calcium and obviously an important part of the human anotomy. This is why rodents etc...consume the antlers that they find lying around.

I have read many times that antlers are the "Fastest growing tissue in the animal kingdom"....and Rob is right, it is not limited to deer alone. I'm not sure if the "Fastest growing tissue known to man" is the same thing...If one considers plants as having tissue, I have also read that the bamboo is the fastest growing living thing in the world....

Yep eating road kills in Pa is legal. You must call the PGC and report the deer. They will send you a permit for the meat in the mail. BUT if it is a buck the antlers must be turned over to them,or you can buy the antlers for 10 dollars a point. The antler that I ate the little piece of velvet off of was knocked free of the head. The deer was to messed up for consumption. The PGC picked it up 6 days later.I did not take the little antlers just tried a piece of velvet that was knocked off to see if it worked like viagra.Like I said by the time I got home I was puking.
