Default Christmas Elf?

Walked out in my backyard this week and capturedsomething very strange a deer with elf hoofs! Check out the photo. This is from Lake Hopatcong in New Jersey. The deer seemed like it wasskating on the ice covered snow. I checked online and heard the deformity is sometimes called slipperfoot. Any hunters see this before? How rare is this?

I have seen that on moose but never a deer. I know it is a lack of a kind of mineral in their diet but cant recall what type it is. On the moose I seen which was 2 yrs in a roll the hoofs where at least a foot long.

i've never seen it first hand but i've heard others on this forum talk about it in years past. something in the deer's genetics that make their hooves keep growing.
