Why is buckshot for deer illegal in some areas like ohio???
Do you use a slug barrel for buck shot or a smooth field barrel?

Buckshot is only effective up close and personal, such as bow ranges......

Cuz its a very unethical load and results in alot of deer suffering because people take to many shots with it when deer aren't close enough for it to kill them. I would think you would not want to use this considering you don't like to see animals suffer. IMO buckshot shouldnt be allowed for deer anywhere. Slugs work way better for deer, close or far. Buckshot is for yotes and hog control IMO. WCL

Often what is legal in one state is not legal in another...

Used properly, in a shotgun that has been pattered, buckshot is lethal out to about 40 yards, I have killed at least 30 deer with buckshot...Just like sighting in a rifle, you have to try different brands of ammo, different size shot and in a shotgun even different chokes...

Many who turn their noses up at buckshot have never tried it on game...

We bought it one time just to shoot at stuff around the house and we tried it on a road killed deer that we propped up and it looks like it would have done its job. It's when hunters see that deer movin though the woods and utto they find out it was 50 yards instead of 40 and the deer has a pellet in its butt and shoulder and isnt gonna die any time soon that makes it questionable. I know I know all ammunition has its limits and people break it and results in wounded deer but whats wrong with slugs. That slug isnt gonna fail ya at 20 yards or 50 or even 100. I'd rather be limited by my sights or weapon than by the load I shoot. IMO buck shot doesnt gain you anything, it just limits your succes that much more. WCL

No but we've shot deer runnin through the grass swamp and brush thickets doin mach 80 on drives and at 40 yards or less is achip shot with any point and shoot shotgun let aloneasemi-auto 12 ga. Less than 40 yards keep swingin the gun and put it on the front of their chest. The slug will find its mark. Don't take much lead to hit em under 40 yards. Not to mention the one we shot runnin at 80 yards either. Another thing slugs do better is bustin brush.... But no we can't use dogs to run deer andIknow the buck shot has its uses so I'm not gonna agrue about that. WCL
