little sisters FIRST buck
Saturday was the opening day of firearm season in Indiana. I took my little sister, Mikayla, hoping she would get a shot at her first at a buck. I had seen tons of little basket racks that i thought would just be perfect for her. About an hour after sunrise I decided to do a couple of doe bleats. As soon as i finished i turned back and looked in the field to my left and saw a great big old doe staring right at us. I thought for sure we were going to be busted. the doe started walikng down the edge of the field (60 yards) but was very nervous and stomping her feet. I had the video camera on her, and was watching her through it. mikayla and I had decided earlier that if a big doe came in, she wanted to shoot it. Right as mikayla went to raise her gun i told her "Dont shoot, there's a monster behind her don't shoot!" about twenty yards behind the doe, all you could see was a rack sticking up above the weeds. It took mikayla a second to find the buck, but she did. The buck was casually walking behind the doe. i told mikayla to shoot him if she wanted to. Once he was in the clear for both of us, i stopped him with a loud blat. He stopped, and looked at us. Mikayla shot was perfect, and he only went about thirty yards. I was able to capture the whole thing on film. Neither one of us knew exactly what she had shot until we found it, and even then she was still naive about it. The deer grossed 164 5/8. He was shot out of the same stand i shot my best buck out of a week earlier, almost to the hour. (only 127 3/8) It was one heck of a first buck!!

RE: little sisters FIRST buck
You are a GOOD bro. I would have elbowed my sis in the face, grabbed the gun and shot it myself.. JK.
It's great you took your sister and even better that she wanted to go..You guys can share this forever and I hope she does notthrow it in your face to often.
PS....Make sure she finds her own stand next year.

This is a great story. I'm glad that you got to share such an experience with your sister. The two of you have just created a memroy that you'll relive hundreds of times in your lifetime. Congrats to your sister.
