The same way you would a big piece. Find the part that
has the most deer sign, or that forces them to use a certain trail. If they bed down there you may be in for a tough time sneaking in and out without spooking them too much.

yea i own a small piece of land too.the only thing i have ever taken there though was a 3 point. but yea what i do is find the spot with the most deer signs and hunt it.

just some random advice that i have wanted to try on my 10 acres. i would like to try and clear everything out of there (brush trees and all)and plant a whole 10 acres of alfa alfa field. that would be pretty sweet i think.

Find the funnel leading in and out of the woodlot and hang a stand. Wait for the right wind and you'll be in business.

Takes time. Easy to ruin it for yourself so don't go tramping all over and stinking up the place. Several stands set in the spring is a good start. Takes me years to figure one out.

Hey I am in the same boat. I have live on 24 acres and about 10 - 12 is wooded and I hunt that. When I was looking for a spot I put a few bait piles out in different spots and waited to see where the most action was at. I also looked for some good deer trails were.

If i was you i would put me a bag of corn in the bottem by the creek and put you a tree stand where you can see your corn, and have good shooting range.

Yes my neighbor has a bag of corn next to a creek and oh my god. You should see the deer he gets out of that. and a ton of deer come there everynight.

Sounds like baiting to me

You might as well go down to the Bi Lo store and just buy some meat!

Baiting is legal where I hunt.
I guess not where you hunt.

i have a few small spots like you described and i have found the best thing to do is to leave them untouched until the end of the season. let the deer get in there and feel safe, espically if people hunt land ajoining your's, they will push them in and as long as you dont bother them they will stay there.
then at the end of the season ill sneak in before first light and stand inbetween where i think they are feeding and bedding. i've seen a ton of deer doing this including some big bucks.

what i have found works a lot to is wait until u get some snow or rain where you can walk around without making much noise, sneak in and still hunt around. if the deer where spooked into your property and you have not disturbed them they shouldn't want to blow out right away, giving you plenty of time for a shot...just make sure to go slow and keep the wind in your face.

also if you plan on hunting your property early on in the season i would advise getting a good idea of where the deer are going to be passing through at, this early in the season most deer wont stay just in your lot but they will typically feed through it, so get out there early and try and hunt the whole day if possible.

I would place corn in the center of your property.
Only put out enough to keep them coming back.
I would also make amineral lick. If legal.;)

I cant bait deer, the corn deal isout.

I have noticed the deer eventually will work their way in the smallwoods later in the season, last year i took my deer very early inthe season.

Thanks for all the advice!
