Probably trying to figure out what you were. Last Friday I climbed a tree and about half way up I looked over and there was a spike watching me climb the tree about 30 yards away. When you think that you have them figured out somthing will happen to change your idea.

Yes, it was trying to get your scent. Deer will constantly lick their noses to one, clean them and two moisturize them allowing them to collect scent molecules in the air. A buck will also lip curl to pick up an estrus scent left by a doe.
