Why would I stop hunting.......I butcher my own beef and still buy it frem the store. Same difference...

No. Just because antlers aren't a priority doesn't mean "meat hunters" aren't thrilled by the hunt. It just means that our hunts aren't centered around antlers or trophies. For me there is just a much enjoyment in the preparation and the hunt as there is in the harvest.

Could not have said it better myself!!

No, one of the reasons I hunt is the knowledge that the meat I bring down is much better for me than the hormone laced fatty crap at the store. If "farmed" deer were at the store they wuld raise it in similar fashion to the way beef is raised, and that would ruin it for me. Meat hunters also enjoy the sporting aspect of deer hunting, not just the end product, we simply have a different concept of what "trophy" means, to us it's a full freezer and happy memories.

No I hunt for the thrill of the adventure.

Why do meat hunters offend trophy hunters so bad?

Stop trying to start another rant and rave thread like the guys who keep making threads about dog hunting.

You can do both. Shoot does and save one tag for a big buck.

I've hunted a long time, and taken alot of deer/antlers/horns, etc..., but I still get a mighty charge out of doe hunting. Our family eats an elk, antelope, and maybe 8-12 deer every year. I make burger, sausage, snack sticks, salami, steaks, chops, roasts, etc..., and we do it ourselves. My wife cans some of it for winter meals.

Deer hunting is exciting no matter what sex the tag is good for. I tend to hold out for a mature buck on my A tag, because there is no point in filling it with a small buck when I can shoot does on my B tags. Holding out for a good buck usually extends the amount of time I spend in the woods, which for me, is the main reason I do it.

Some guys don't have the time, like the meat, maybe don't have a place to hunt that allows for "passing" much, so they need to fill their tag with whatever comes by. They are grateful for it and consider it an awesomesuccess under the circumstances. I've been there, and felt the joy of accomplishment that goes along with it.

I have alot of buddies in Idaho who only get one deer tag a year, or two if they are lucky. They have a short general season in these parts (Oct 10-31st), and they fill their tags with whatever if they want to eat. We are blessed in Montana to be able to shoot 7 does per person if we so choose. It used to be pretty much unlimited until last year though, depending on how much you wanted to travel for doe shooting. Until last year I had gone two seasons without taking a buck, but not for lack of opportunity. Just wanted a nice one if I was going to shoot one at all.

I mainly enjoy the outdoors, and am pretty sure that most hunters do also otherwise they would quickly get bored with the sport. I like to go hiking and mountain climbing as well.. but carrying a gun with the possibility of harvesting nature's bounty is an extra added bonus.

The 3 bucks I have killed were very exciting.. but if I were dead set on killing a buck every time I went out I would quickly get frustrated. Since we are allowed 10 does and 2 bucks in GA, I would just as soon shoot a doe so that I have the option of hunting a buck only area later in the season.. not to mention the meat is better.

I was out last weekend in a private tract my buddy just lined up, and saw an awesome buck. I really did not want to shoot him since my buddy is still trying to get his first buck.. so I figure I will get him after it. But it was a major thrill just seeing such an awesome creature.. and one of the best times I have had hunting. Like someone else said, spending time in the outdoors is like warshipping to me.

I bagged one doe so far this season and would like to get a couple more to keep me in venison.
