Just Wondering What Kind Of Slugs Most People Use

RE: Just Wondering What Kind Of Slugs Most People Use
Oh! This kinda question AGAIN!
Let's say this first. An intelligent shooter will try a good variety of the slugs available on the market to see which can give him what he considers an acceptable grouping for the intended shooting range. Of course performance (accuracy) is the main focus, but of course with today's silly prices on some of these offerings, cost does come into the equation for some.
With that said. Even 2 guys, let's say both shooting what appear to be identical Rem 1187s, may find that their guns deliver the tighest groups with 2 different brands or types of slugs. Gun 1 might shoot 3 inch 100 yards groups with 3" RemingtonBuckHammers while in gun 2 the Hammers are giving 10" groups at 100 yards. But gun 2 will do 2-3" groups with 2-3/4" CopperSolids and gun 1 does 8" groups with the same load.
So to your actual question. My gun (H&R 12 gauge USH) prefers 3" Brenneke Gold Magnums and 2-3/4" Brenneke Heavy Field Magnums. The accuracy is phenominal and the knockdown power has NEVER let me down.

Slugs gave me grief for a long time. Nothing shot decent out of my hastings barrel. I very, verythorough scrubbing of the barrel and a switch to lightweight sabots did the trick. I pick the Hornady SST and Federal Barnes Expander 3/4 oz. These shoot very flat and recoil less than their 1 oz. brothers. You also don't hear many people questioning the performance of Hornady or Barnes bullets. Sight it 3" high at 100 yds and and it's point and shoot to 175yds.

I shoot Hornady SST's in my Benelli and they are by far the best for my shotgun! Have tried many, but the SST's are the most accurate for me. Still try several and pick what you are most comfortable with. Good luck.
