.25-06 if the weather is good, otherwise a .30-06. The .25-06 is in a pretty wood stock. The .30-06 is a Remington ADL with a synthetic stock. If it rains and I feel like braving the rain -- which I probably would -- I'll use the .30-06 because I figure it will be largely immune to the elements and the value of the rifle, even if not immune, is not very high.

I like 788s. Worst mistake remington ever did was discontinue them.
