Default Success! 6x5 whitetail!

Well, I shot my first buck on opening day! after a five mile hike through hot high-plains fields I tracked a group of 3 bucks into a steep, steep draw. they flushed and I took a 90yd shot on the lead buck moving left to right from me. Perfect bang-flop heart shot! I was firing down at a steep angle, and the heart had a .243 caliber hold punched right in the center of it and the bottom half looked like a bloomed rose turned upside-down. Over the next ridge, my buddy shot the next deer of the three as he flushed over. Just like that the season was over! Thanks for all you help on these forums, they've been fun to read and very useful.

I shot him, my first rifle deer, with my heirloom 1963 winchester model 70 .243 that my grandfather gave me. It's a gorgeous, new-looking gun that has been used VERY sparingly.

You can't see one of the points on his right antler, weird angle. Split brow tines on the left antler!

Hey, I said it was my first rifle deer, not my first rifle kill! I've shot more than my share of running yotes, and I'm glad for the chance to shoot at a much bigger target this time! The Palouse hills here in eastern washington give some interesting angles to shoot at for sure! (That and tailoring my own 95gr. handloads that print .4" groups off bags sure helps )

P.S. Weird, i was looking through the pics and there's only one where you can distinctly make out all the points. I better go take some more head photos to get the angles better! This isn't the best pic, but you can count the tines.
