I agree, seen more then a few botched neck/head shots, making menot an advocate. I know human error happens and prefer to have more then a 2" target on a moving/living target. Also the head/neck area on deer is something that moves alot and often without warning. I prefer the H/L or shoulder area.

yea I've never shot a deer in the vitals and every one out of the nine that I have shot dropped right where it was standing. All head and neck shots. All you gotta do is calm yourself and you won't miss.

There is a big gap between the spine/artery to the top of the neck, and then another gap below that you could cut the windpipe and then have the deer die of suffocation. Also the gap above will have you tacking for hours on a wounded deer that may or may not die.
Vitals offer (broadside) almost a 16" high by 14" wide target on most deer

Again the same issue with head shots, smaller target=bigger room for error.

Tracking is another part of hunting and can be a fun and exciting part as well.
To each their own but I teach to take the broadside/quartering away shot. If the deer isn't presenting anything other than the head/neck, wait for a better shot.

With a rifle you take out the cntroll tower and your done. I wouldnt ever shoot deer in the head or neck with a bow .

I like the double lung shot best but Id take a neck shot if it presented itself and things were right for it.

I would only shoot a deer in the neck if I was using a rifle otherwise they are a poorly placed shoot with agood chancefor wounding a deer

a neck shot and its over, just be sure you know your rifle's shot group

I oppose neck shots. I believe that if you are going to hunt a deer then you need to have a good shot placement on the vital organs so the animal doesn't suffer and doesn't become wounded. Neck shots make deer harder to find.
