I've found that the sound of me leaving the woods in disgust seems to draw them from very far...
Actually, the very best attractant I've found, other than a hot doe smell, is either the smell of ripe persimmons or acorns. It's most effective post rut since they're looking for food to restore their lost reserves before winter.
