Shooting from 50 or less yards
Hey yall,
I am still pretty new to the hunting seen and I have scouted out an great place this year (atleast 5 deer 2-3 doe, a baby and one big big buck). and I was wondering with how close range it is, what would you use.
What you would use take them at 50+ yards.
7.63X39 / 30/30 bullistic type firearms
Shotgun
or just pull out the muzzleloader (if your law allows it)
or your bow/ crossbow (if your law allows it)

I know what I am going to take I own an sks I am going to use that and my muzzleloader. If my luck from last year stays with me it will be the 12 ga with buck shot.
I missed 3 deer last year because my knock over my 30_06 and massed up my scope. She did not tell me until the end of the season.[:@]

You ain't doing yourself any favors, not to mention the risk of hitting a deer in a place other than where you aimed.

Hey Guys one thing to consider. He said he is "New" to hunting. I would choose the muzzy myself but thats only because I trust my ability in one shot. He on the other hand may not have taken a deer yet and therefore might choose the 30/30 (After some practice and sighting) in order to get that very important backup shot should he see his "Big Big Buck" and get a little nervous. Bows are out for sure. The "AK clone"round is a little lighter than the 30/30. New shooters tend to spray the woods with a shotgun.

Little history lession:
The sks came out before the Ak. and the 7.62X39 is half the length of 30/30 those less charge. the bullet is lighter with a lighter charge. ALot of ppl compare them because they a 30 cal bullet and there BULLETICS simiuler (sorry bad speller).
