RE: On younguns and huntin..

To continue the off-topic piece...The last 2 bucks I have shot, decent 8 pointers each, have been hit 4 and 3 times respectively with a 1 oz shotgun slug. All the shots were in the boiler house taking out lungs, heart, etc. Both bucks had NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF BEING HIT until they ran 75 yards. The first had a hole you could put a fist through on the back side and still showed no signs of being hit. I am completely at a loss, both bucks were shot at about 50 yards. One reason is that I didnt hit any major bones other than ribs, but still...I am wondering about my slugs.

When a young kid shoots a big trophy deer he/she most the time wont want to shoot those little does and little bucks, so the dads are giving them something to work for and pry will bump this up each year untill they are mature enough to know that any deer they shoot is going to be worth the bullet!!!

i killed my first deer when I was 12.It was an 11 pt with an 18.5 inch inside spread. I dont think this made me very spoiled. It took me 4 years to kill my first deer. The next two years i took a small 7 pt. and a doe. This year i passed up shots on a couple of does because I saw a big buck during bow season. The first day of gun season the buck walked up a field edge to withen eight yards. (Wish I had my bow with me)I didnt see him till he was 20 yards away because of a briar thicket. ran about 20 yards. Bullet went through the sholder and into his vitals, not much left of lungs or heart. He was a 8 pt. with 2 stickers 18. in inside spread 9.5 tall 195 lbs. field dressed.
