Uncle's backyard deer pictures
Hey guys, my uncle just sent me some pictures of some deer that he has in his backyard, and since he lives in the county, he can hunt them, so he was just wondering if you guys could give an estimate of how old the bucks are.

Both of those deer are probably 1 1/2 years old.

I agree with KYDeerHunter...

If they were that young, wouldn't they be spikes instead of bucks with a rack?

RE: Uncle's backyard deer pictures
It just depends on the genetics they have and the health and food sources they get during the summer. Some deer do only have spikes when they are 1 1/2 but other do get up to 6 points during their first year.

RE: Uncle's backyard deer pictures
I'd say year and a half too.

Yep, they look like year and a half to me too.
As said, genetics and nutrition will determine antlers. Here in the Midwest, I've shot year and a half bucks that were 7 points. I would say around here, most bucks have around 6 pts by 1.5. I almost never see a spike. But back in OK where my parents live, it is common to see spikes. |
RE: Uncle's backyard deer pictures
Do you think these deer have good potential? That these could eventually become trophies in 2 1/2 years?

RE: Uncle's backyard deer pictures
Yes............... 1 1/2
Try putting up a trail camera. Maybe the big boys are moving after dark |
RE: Uncle's backyard deer pictures
It takes about 4.5 to 5.5 years to develope into trophy class animals... at 2.5 years they might be 13-15" wide
