I was told that my local party store is selling chestnuts for $4 a bag and that the deer absolutely love them. He said they just tear them up. I bought a bag and am gonna try them out in front of my trail cam. Anyone hear of deer loving chestnuts?? Its new to me.

That would make sense, chestnut was one of the most common trees in North America before Europeans brought over their tree diseases. Whitetails are probably designed to eat them.

I was watching a hunting show on the Outdoor Channel a few weeks ago. The show was about whitetail management and how to keep a herd on your property. This so called expert said that chestnuts are by far the deers favorite food, he also said that if you own some property get out there now and plant some chestnut trees.

Seems that the cost of buying chestnuts would be too high to put on a camera while corn will do the same job. That is unless you are getting the chestnutsat $4 for 50#?

Dad had a couple Chestnut trees in his back yard and the deer flocked to them when they were dropping. The only problem is they drop way before hunting season comes in. I used to pick them up and scatter them in the woods to get them started there but they were eaten before they had a chance to grow.
