I have taken shots at 250-300 ydsBUT Idont like to and dont usually have that option. Mostdeer I have seen inthis state are under 100yds anyway. Only a few areas I huntoffer that kind of distance and I like to stillhunt or track when I can.

I've taken quite a few deer at 250 - 300 yards (I hunt a lot of power lines) and never had a problem. However, I voted 350-400 because it says any North American big game and my elk rifle could easily hit the mark at 350 yards. Of course I'm assuming perfect conditions with a solid rest.

if all conditions suit me, my personal max range at this time is 700 yds, I strenuously practice at long range and have shot groups under 2" at 660 yds. my farthest deer taken last year was at 585 yds.
with a rifle set up for it, out to 700 isn't that diffacult.

Here in IL, I'll go 30 yards or a bit more with my bow and 150 or so with my slug gun. But if there's much wind I'd cut the 150 to more like 100.

Take me for exsample....I voted 150 yards. That is the furthest I would try to kill a animal at period. Infact what ever the weather condition was when I was out hunting and I killed a deer it was well under 100 yards with my rifle. Rain,wind snow storm etc. My avg kill went down form 60 yards to 40 yards the past 4 years and some kills less than that the last two years. In 2005 my 1st WT doe was a 82 yard shot in the neck. my second WTdoe was 25 yards in the neck, my third WT doe was a 50 yard broad side shot, my 3x3 muly was a 30 yard neck shot and my mulie doe was a 80 yard broad side shot.
In 2006 my 3x4 WT buck was a 31 yard neck shot, my 1st WT doe was a 71 yard neck shot, and my 2nd WT doe was a 12 yard neck shot. All with a rifle. It gets windy here a lot.
