I certainly wouldn't use the 28" Vent Rib barrel for deer! Buy the standard barrel model for your bird and small game hunting applications and then buy a seperate Fully Rifled Canti-lever barrel for deer hunting. If you look, you should be able to find an 870 combo with a couple of barrels for only a couple hundred bucks. Good luck

LOL! The guys asking about buying a bottom of the line cheapy shotgun, I believe that is the complete opposite end of the spectrum from the awesome SBE II ! :D Huuummmm, lets see,.... should it be the $200Remington or the $1,400 Benelli ??? ;):D

If he was looking for a good auto that was what i suggested. ok bud your right 100% right. If your looking for a CHEAP AUTO get a stoeger m2000.

Yeah, I looked at the price on the Super Black Eagle and thought you might be smoking something. I am only 16 so my budget is rather tight and all of it comes from babysitting so I might have to wait a couple years until I can afford that.

Get the 870, it will last your lifetime, your son's, and grandson's as it's pasted down.

I agree that the WingMaster it a lot better quality gun than the 870 Express.

You are going to get so many answers.

870, 835, 535, 500, BPS, Nova, this and that.....its endless.......

but, if you want a pump that is above most others in quality, BPS and WingMaster are the ones I would chose.

I have one of the original 870 Express combos. It has a 20" smooth bore slug barrel and a 28" vented rib barrel with rem choke. I can cut clover leaf groups with 2 3/4" rifled slugs at 50 yards. The barrel is a little long, but I use it for turkeys with an extended ported choke tube. I don't hunt waterfowl, but I'm sure its adequate. I have done some trap/skeet shooting with it on occasion but years ago. I use a scope mount that bolts into where the trigger assembly pins go. I love that gun.

You can't go wrong with a870 it's probably the most popular shotgun on the market. Ibought a 870 wingmaster over 25 years ago never had a bit of trouble with it. Mine doesn't have a Remchoke on it.
This year I bought a Nova for turkey hunting so I could switch chokes to get a better pattern. Its a nice gun but I think I like the 870 better.

Get a Charles Daly, it's an auto-loader shotgun, and it's great for all game birds, waterfowl, and turkey, and I think you would be able to find a slug barrel for it. My uncle has a Charles Daly, and it's a great gun, shot my first turkey with it.
