RE: Be Honest
ORIGINAL: Arrowmaster How many hunters shoot the first deer that walks by them during the firearms season. That includes shotguns, rifles or muzzleloader. I myself am picky and wont shoot a yearling doe or button buck. |
RE: Be Honest
It's the sad truth that that's the only way to enforce the doe/buck ratio, since most hunters that bother to go to military bases to hunt don't go to just hunt, they go to trophy hunt for big bucks.
Do you think you would've shot a doe if you didn't have to, and only shot the buck? I know that's got to feel terrible, it really would make a guy mad to see a nice management buck walk by. |
RE: Be Honest
It is easy for me to identify my targets, I am planning on bowhunting the entire year and have a bowhunting only lease - I have hit the point in my life where I harvest does and only mature bucks -

RE: Be Honest
The 1st legal deer to give me a shot gets tagged.I'm a little more pickier in archery

RE: Be Honest
ORIGINAL: Lanse couche couche I'm a meat hunter, especially young tender meat. So, hopefully the first thing i will see will be a young doe or button buck, and down it goes. |

RE: Be Honest
i wont shoot a doe unless she's mature and alone, and a spiked buck i'll let walk(maybe towards the end of season and i'm meatless, not the beginning of season)

RE: Be Honest
Around where I hunt its almost a sin to pass up a 4pt or bigger because someone elsewill shoot it without thinking. Truthfully, this year I plan on shooting nothing smaller than a 6, but might be easier said than done, since last season I shot a1pt thinking it was unique and i took a lot of heat for it which kinda pissed me off. I usually dont attempt to shoot any does until then end of the season.
