I'm a meat hunter, especially young tender meat. So, hopefully the first thing i will see will be a young doe or button buck, and down it goes.

We dont really practice quality management, during the bow season the 3 of us that bow hunt set standards before each season then come gun season pretty much anything is fair game, except does with fawns and yearlings. we try to harvest mature deer only. but once in a while a mistake will happen as in any other hunt.

Heres what we liek to take during bow season and gun what we try to take during gun season but gun season doesnt always offer us deer like this. Bow season buck is on this page. the next page gun season buck is posted on.

I like to hold off on a buck openingweekend of the Wi gun season. But if a big old doe or wounded deer happens to come wobbling along, its best to take them out. But usually try to take a buck first. Antler size to me during the gun season doesnt matter to me, you cant eat the antlers anyway.

Is this on the same land you bow hunt and practice "quality management" on? If so, why would your standards be different for gun season than bow season?

I hunt for meat. I tried eating horns once but they were a little too tough. Therefore the first deer that walks by me isgoing in my freezer.

If I am gun hunting, it typically means I am only out for a doe. So any decent sized one gets popped. If I would go out in gun season with a buck tag, it would have to be pretty doggone huge for me to pull the trigger on it.
