RE: Side arms a'field???

99% of my hunting is on my own land. I usually don't carry a sidearm during hunting, but when out in the field & timber, fencing woodcutting, etc. it is usually on my side. Just can't carry a long gun cutting wood or fixing fence. I also have a carry permit.

Occasionally carry one of my Kimber .45 autos when hunting and almost always have one with me at other times(permit).

Only during Black Powder and Rifle season. For deer that is.
As far as for any other season, for me its not needed. Oh, well, now I will carry my 45 cal. on a shoulder holster with me when checking trails off season or filling my feeders and such. And thats only for the boogie man<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I don't go into the forest unarmed since 1998, when a rabid skunk thought he could climb up my leg....I will carry my .45 ACP Witness during muzzleloader season, mainly for coyotes or a finishing shot, but since we don't have any &quot;dangerous&quot; game here in the flatlands, I don't carry during slug season....

Carry either a .44 Mag or a .357 Mag for deer most of the time. I have used them exclusivly on occasion for deer hunting with good luck. I also carry either a .45 S&W compact, a Kimber Ultra Carry .45 or a Glock .40 any other time I can. My two jobs do not allow me to carry there, but everywhere else I legally can, I do.

I personally don't carry a side arm when hunting. It's not legal here in Ohio during bow season and I feel that the slug gun I'm carrying during firearms season is enough protection should I ever need it. A few weeks ago I went pheasant hunting in Indiana & saw a fellow pheasant hunter wearing a .45 auto. Not exactly sure what he needed that for. Not too many predetors to worry about in the woods of southern Indiana.

I carry one every time I go hunting I have a Ruger SBH 44 mag with a 6&quot; barrel shooting 180gr lead tips and it has come in handy a few times on tracking deer that were hit bad and still alive when we found them and finishing them off.

It's the operator that messes up....not the equipment.Have confidence in yourself and shoot straight.
