While I was visiting the inlaws down south of San Antonio, I made my usual trip to the State Park down at Choke Canyon(I believe it is Callahen Park). I took a couple of rolls of film of some really nice South Texas bucks. I posted both entire rolls onto my webshots account. Really made me drool to drive around and see bucks like that. Just thought I would share.

Wow!!!! Those are some serious South Texas deer right there. I've got a partner here at work who loves to go camping and he has told me about Choke Canyon in the past. I've mentioned to my wife that we need to take a mini vacation down that ways in the future. I've also read a few outdoor articles in the Houston Chronicle about Choke Canyon but this is the first time I have seen the wildlife!!!! It looks like they are kindof tame and that's pretty neat. I've camped out in Brazos Bend State Park and the deer are like this. I've also been to Aransas Wildlife Refuge and they got some dang good wall hangers that like to come out and get there picture taken. I'm deffinately going to be going to Choke Canyon in the future. Great pictures and thanks for sharing. Here's my favorite picture.

If anyone wants to know more about Choke Canyon State Park go to....... http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/park/choke/

Wow thanks for the pics. I was going to say its obvious that you cant hunt there but the link Johnny posted shows that they do have scheduled hunts there. If I were in Texas I might look into that.

Natty - they do have some draw hunts in close proximity to the area but they are extremely hard to get drawn for. My grandfather did get drawn about 15 years ago and killed a 150 class(I have never scored it) buck down there. We haven't put in for the draw lately but might have to start again. It is all so dependent on what pasture you get put in as far as what kind of deer you see. I'm going to have to make a trip down there when I can spend the weekend. I took all of these pics one afternoon.
