Default plot, would it work

would it work to go out into a nice spot in the woods, rake a large area out, and throw some seed in the raked area? i have done it before in just a real small area just to test it, worked fine it seemed like, but i also had a small bit planted in the open, and it was on red dirt, wich couldnt have been very good, and it grew faster than what grew in the woods, my guess is from sunlight and all? also if i did this i want to do it now, to get deer coming early, and for turkey, what do u suggest i use?

Check out Whitetail Institute'scomplete line of products. I'd say look into some No-Plow or Secret Spot. Just my thoughts.

I would also do a soil sample, or buy a tester from Bio-logic, to see if you may want to use some lime, and maybe use other fertilizers also, it sure wouldn't hurt to do a little extra work. If you want the plot to be for Turkeys, Bio-Logic has a good mix for them.

That method of random type broadcasting is extremely hit or miss. Also, you'll never ever get close to what the seed bland is capable of without the proper application of lime and fertilizer to allow the soil to release the nutrients to maximize plant potential. You simply wouldn't believe the difference a little pre-applied lime would make! most trow'n'grow type planting like that are simply grasses and not really plants that deer will truly go out of their way for. I've personally had better results with brassica based planting in areas like this. Not to mention, brassicas feature explosive growth and the 2 feet high thick leaves really get theanimals attention.
