Albino or Buck?
just thought id ask yall what you would do..
last winter after a morning bowhunt i went back to my grandpas house and we climbed in the truck to head to his bank, (30 minute drive). we went all was well, started on our way back when i saw something very interesting. just off this busy road in a cut corn field about 8 does were feeding. Keep in mind that we were driving very slow. outta nowhere an albino doe runs from the woods into the field and i was shocked to say the least. what shocked me even more was when a big 8 or 9 point brute (prob gross 140-150)followed her closely and trailed her across the field. this was right during peak rut and i was wondering, if you were hunting there, which would you shoot? i vote albino doe cuz those are alot more rare than a 8 or 9point round here. |
RE: Albino or Buck?
I'd take the buck since we cant shoot albino's in Wisconsin.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
Buck. But she'd keep standing around, I'd get her too.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
it alligal to shoot anything albino
u can only shoot it if u can find some brown on it if so its not a total albino and u can shoot it |

just what i was told did check up i just assumed it was right..
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
I would take the buck
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
i think in some states you can shoot albinos but like here in illinois you can't. As for me id take the buck like said before she could just stop so you can shoot her to. iv had that happen before. plus i believe doe's travel alot less the bucks do theres a good chance you will see her again.

ORIGINAL: southern_hunter194 just what i was told did check up i just assumed it was right.. Good to know, although the odds of me ever seeing an albino deer are slimmer than hell, now I know not to shoot one if I ever have the chance! I guess even before I knew the laws I would have said the buck and let other outdoorsmen have the once in a lifetime opportunity to see an albino deer, although many of the idiots that hunt the same public land as I do would probably blast it on sight. |
RE: Albino or Buck?
i would leave the doe standing because it is illegal to shoot
albino animals here and the horn look great on the wall |
RE: Albino or Buck?
It is completely legal to shoot albino in Ky.There really is no reason for it to be illegal.
I would shoot the albino because I would already have had her on the ground before the buck got there.:DBUT if he kept coming, man what a hunt that would be. I know a person that shot an albino and then turned around the next year and shot another out of the same stand. Then another friend shot one a year or two later from the same woods and I am not sure but it might have been the same stand also. There have been albinos beeing shot from this particular area for years. The gene is in the herd and they keep popping up. |

RE: Albino or Buck?
I would shoot the buck for sure! I would be happy to just see the albino!
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
If you want them both shoot the doe first. No buck will leave a doe in heat, even if she did drop dead right in front of him.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
Whichever one had more meat.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
I would say the buck because if he only had eight or nine points and he scored 140-150that would be a huge buck and I would much rather look at that on my wall and just show people a picture or maybe some video footage of the doe.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
Buck..
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
I would certainly take the albino---if it was legal. They are ten times as rare as a mature buck.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
id take the buck. I had a chance here 2yr ago to harvest a albino buck and i passed. I had no desire at all to kill it i know they are a mutated gene but they are so rare and cool to watch. the albino would walk everytime around me.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
Actually, I changed my mind. It would be hard to shoot something that rare. At least with bucks you know there will always be more that can grow. Albinos may not be there for you to see again. I guess I couldn't really say whether I'd take one or the other.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
i would shoot the buck because it's illegal to shoot the albino in wisconsin. also i would rather see more of them
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
If it were legal i'd shoot the doe. Not because i wanna brag that i shot this rare and mysterious doe but to keep the gene from being spread to other deer and limiting their ability to hide from predators.

RE: Albino or Buck?
id shoot the doe and get it mounted.an albino doe would be better to me than an 8 ptr.:D
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
If I remember things correctly, the shooting of an albino is what caused it to become illegal in Iowa. A hunter who shot an albino deer was "featured" in an article in the Des Moines Register. He stated that he had a trophy buck and the albino in front of him at the same time. His flippant remark was that he could shoot a trophy buck any year, the albino was one in a lifetime. The next legislative session brought about the 50% rule:a hunter can't shoot a deer that is more than 50% white in color.
I feel that this is not based on sound management practices. Careful what you say...... |
RE: Albino or Buck?
Buck,albinos are illegal in illinois...
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
Most albinos are very weak ,that is why they are so rare . They tend to have weak immune systems. So shoot the doe and wait for a bigger buck.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
I'd shoot both if possible(albinos are legal here), but if it had to be one or the other I'd take the larger of the two for the higher meat yield.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
It's legal here in maine so I def. shoot the doe, that would be very cool to have mounted
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
The Buck we can't shoot Albinos in Oklahoma
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
I would defiantely go for the albino. I think piebalds, albinos, etc. are awesome (if you couldn't already tell by my name) and it's like myultimate goal in hunting to bag one. lol
Last year there was a melanistic buck running around here that any one of us in my hunting group could have shot, but he never survived through rifle season, because he got hit by a car [:'(] I think it's stupid that in some states you can't shoot albinos. Why save them? They'll only pass on defective genes to the herd, same goes with piebalds. |
RE: Albino or Buck?
i wound shoot the buck if it would go 150
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
In indiana it is legal to shoot an albino. But I'd shoot the buck first and hope the doe circled back around.

RE: Albino or Buck?
I would pick the alpino.i like them
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
Albino
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
I'd shoot the buck. Earlier today I posted a video of a racked albino. There is also a pure white doe that I havn't caught with the camera yet but I will!

RE: Albino or Buck?
Its legal in sc..i think... but i would still shoot the buck bc around here the does, 99% of the time, come back. Some times they just stand there and dont run off so i would most likely get both. If not, oh well atleast i got the buck and its more likely for that doe to come back than that rutting buck.
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
Well around here it isnt illegal so I would shoot the buck. You would proably see the doe again so then you could shoot her
|
RE: Albino or Buck?
You can shoot albinos in Ohio.
