RE: gun season, hunt in a tree stand or on the ground

I am in OH, last year, in my stand 30 ft. up, opening morning, watching the deer running wild from all the presure, shots all around me. i even heard that ricocet noise like you hear in old western movies. I tried to make myself as small as i could, turning sideways to the tree i was in. scary and hairy. 7:35 and the deer are under me. this year i dont have a gun, so i am in my tree with a bow, and i hope the presure is there again to bring them to me.
The best thing is to know who is around you. Not easy on public land, but if you hunt private land, ask the landowners around you how many people are going to be out. i would never hunt if there is less than 25 acres per person, and never on the ground if it is less than 50.
Wear plenty of ORANGE, use a light to and from, and let people know were you are going to be at. (just in case you dont come home)
Ohio is scary durring gun season, and if you are really worried, wait untill thursday when other people got thiers or give up.
At any rate, I use a stand, higher than most, wear lots of orange, and use a bright light to get to and from it.
Hope this helps, Adam

its probably true that you are more likely to fall out of the stand than get shot by a hunter so just be carefully when you wander amoung the branches

Treestand. As far as I am concerned there are way to many advantages to a treestand over sitting on the ground.
