Seemed like several bow hunters didn't take too long to wait. You guys really need to be more patient, it is critical to wait unless you see the deer go down.

You might want to read item # 3 in the forum rules: No slanderous or libelous posts - Knowingly making false claims about a company, organization or an individual are illegal and thus prohibited. |

RE: What do you do after you shoot a deer?
ORIGINAL: Rob/PA Bowyer I could be mistaken but I'm entitled to my opinion and in my opinion, the photo isn't completely real. You might as well drop it, you won't convince me otherwise. Trust me, if I were to photoshop a picture like that they would all have big racks and the easiest way to photoshop it would be to justcut the deer out and stack them on top of each other. That way there would be no missing legs where one leg went under another deer. I also find it interesting that you have never posted a single constructive comment on the topic but just chose to dive in and attackmy credibility. The forum rules do prohibit personal attacks but I guess accusing someone of lying is not a personal attack to you? Oh well, I guess it is like talking to a wall, as you said, there is no way to convince you otherwise. You might as well go back and bury your head in the sand. |

RE: What do you do after you shoot a deer?
I use the 15 minute rule. Shoot, wait 15 minutes, and find the deer at the end of a short blood trail. Some have died right there, but I still wait.
Npaden, When they took the picture, did they purposely hide the heads? I found 4 oddly placed ears, but I don't see anything that looks like a head? C. Davis |
RE: What do you do after you shoot a deer?
I thought the 30 MIN rule had been preached for years?!
I understand that the time limit after dropping a deer in it's tracks or watching it go down are different, but that's not what we're talking about here. For me it's a 1/2 hr. wait in the tree, get down, find blood, follow blood for a little bit to get an idea of what I'm dealing with, then make a desicion whether to continue or back out and wait. Sometimes just an hour can be the difference between a short recovery and a lost deer...speaking mainly of archery-shot deer, I've never seen ashotgun slug-hit deer be a problem to find fairly quickly. Oh yeah, I see some ears floating around in the pic. but no heads. And one of the deer in the bottom center looks all wrinkled up like it's just a hide. |
RE: What do you do after you shoot a deer?
The deer were just placed in the truck as they were shot throughout the day and then we drove home approximately 60 miles. The deers heads just fell down into the gaps as they were stacked in the back of the truck. The picture was taken in the dark and obviously it was not framed very well and is not a good photo. I believe there are 7 deer if I recall correctly and I know only 1 was a buck. The deer also were frozen during transit as the temperature would have been well below freezing. Only 1 deer was cut in half and it was the buck because one of my nieces wanted to shoot a buck rather than a doe and they ended up having to haul it out about a mile. I really did not intend for the photo to get this thread off topic. In retrospect I should not have posted it, however it is a real photo, not a fake.
Ireally was curious as to what people did immediately after shooting a deer and I have for sure learned something from the posters who chose to reply to that subject. I've always hunted open country and that is probably the reason we were able to get away with our poor practice of going right after the deer when it was shot. In a wooded area we would have probably lost a lot of deer the way we did things. For the posters who leave your deer overnight do you ever worry about losing them to predators? I would think the coyotes would be all over a deer if it was left overnight. I havea friend who hunts in the mountains in Wyoming and he says that you need to get in quickly and get your deer or elk before the bears do. I also would think that it would make field dressing quite a chore if they were frozen solid, or if it was warm I would be worried about the meat spoiling. |
