RE: Gun question for deer

You can buy mounts fron several places for your Rem. I had a Mossberg 500 that i could kill clay pigeons with at about 70-80yds. I was using an 18" smoothbore with iron sights. As for CVA, they have come a long way over the years. I had a .45cal Kentucky rifle from them my dad bought, as a kit 20 some years ago. It wouldn't shoot for nothing, maybe three inch groups. I lopped the barrel off to 22" and now i get 1.5" or better. Who knows???? I also have one of there inlines, it shoots as good as my brothers Encore. I paid less than 150 bucks new too.

I agree i wouldnt bother with a scope unless you have a rifled barrell. I have a cheap CVA called the buckhorn, i bought it from walmart for like 100 bucks. I threw a 50 dollar special scope on it. Dont get me wrong its a pretty decent and very accurate gun but next time i would have spent a little more money and got a knight or a thompson.

I have a Knight Wolverine and I can shoot 2 in groups at 100 yrds with it. For long shots the muzzleloader can't be beat. If you hunt in an area where your typical shot is 50yrds I would go with the shotgun.

Since i have interchangable barrels do you think that i should get a scope mounted on the barrel instead of the gun itself? If so how would i do this? Thanks for all the help guys!!

You can use a ML in gun season in Ohio, and also have a ML only seaon after Christmas. So i would buy a good ML and you can hunt more of the season in Ohio. A good scope and good ML will reach out better than 150 yrds. in some cases. You won't need 3 shots if you practice with the ML.

To jakesmith09-
In NJ we have shotgun only and muzzleloader as well. The seasons overlap a bit, but also allow for individual weapons days.
Becuase I live in a shotgun only state, I put a hastings rifled barrel on my 12ga Wingmaster and a permanantly mounted scope ( done by a lic. gunsmith)on the receiver. Scope never moves, and the barrel never leaves the gun except to clean. This setup shoots consistantly year after year. I shoot Hornady SST's and get remarkable accuracy at 100yds on the bench.I purchased a separate shotgun for turkeys, birds, bunnies etc.
Go with a dedicated slug gun. It'll be worth it in the long runfor what its worth.
